Have you heard of the Coral Gardens? The name implies but can’t summarize the truth about this unbelievable, natural reef formation along West Maui’s coastline! Coral Gardens is located just South of Olowalu and stretches from the South end of Papalaua Beach towards the cliff. It is naturally protected by the West Maui mountains which makes it a consistently pleasant and safe snorkeling sport. The numerous reef formations provide a ‘canopy’ of coral filled with nooks and crannies that make the perfect place for an incredible array of marine life.
If you join one of Maui Reef Adventure’s Coral Gardens snorkel tour, you’ll be able to spot Hawaiian green sea turtles, angel fish, parrot fish, crabs, eels and many more indigenous species. You’ll also have a chance to experience an ancient time – the long stretches of underwater volcanic formations’ sight will fly you back 500,000 years ago when lava flowed from the ancient Mauna Kahalawai which formed the West Maui mountains. So much beauty, history and science at once!
